Corvane Works came out of a straightforward observation: that watches needing real attention — particularly chronographs and pieces from family estates — rarely found their way to a bench where they were handled at an appropriate pace. Most workshop environments in the region were structured around volume. A piece would go in, come back, and the owner would have little account of what had actually been done.
The workshop was set up at 41 Jalan Sultan Idris Shah in Ipoh with a different arrangement in mind. Work is carried out by hand at one bench, at a pace that suits the piece. Nothing is handed off without prior conversation. Owners receive a written record of what was found and what was done. When a piece requires parts that are not held in stock, sourcing is discussed openly before any commitment is made.
The three services currently offered — chronograph mechanism servicing, strap fitting and spring bar renewal, and estate watch documentation — were chosen because they represent the categories of work most likely to benefit from the approach described above. Each has a defined scope, a realistic duration, and a clear output.
Corvane Works does not seek to be the fastest or the largest option in Perak. The aim is simply to be a workshop where a mechanical watch receives careful attention and its owner comes away knowing exactly what happened to it.

Ruzaini Hamid
Lead Watchmaker
Ruzaini has spent over fifteen years working on mechanical movements, with a particular focus on column-wheel chronograph calibres. He holds the Ipoh appointment for several calibre-specific parts suppliers in Southeast Asia.

Documentation and Condition Reports
Suraya manages the estate documentation service. Her background is in archival work. She prepares all written reports and oversees the photographic record for each piece submitted under that service.
Azlan Kamaruddin
Strap Fitting and Parts
Azlan handles strap fitting appointments and manages the parts inventory. He assesses lug wear during fitting and advises on strap choices suited to the case dimensions and intended use.
How we approach our work
Written service records
Every piece that passes through the workshop is logged with a description of findings, parts replaced, and post-service performance data. These records are available to the owner on request.
72-hour post-service checks
Mechanical movements are observed for a minimum of 72 hours after regulation before being returned. This covers start, stop, and reset functions on chronographs, and timekeeping consistency on standard movements.
No subcontracting without agreement
If a task requires capability not held in the workshop, this is communicated before the piece is sent anywhere. The owner decides whether to proceed.
High-magnification photography
Estate pieces are photographed in detail before and after any handling. The photographic archive forms part of the condition report delivered to the owner.
Scope confirmed before work begins
If disassembly reveals needs beyond the agreed scope, we stop and contact the owner. No additional work proceeds without explicit confirmation of revised terms.
Data and enquiry privacy
Contact details and watch records are kept in a closed workshop log and are not shared. Our full privacy practice is described at privacy-policy.html.
Mechanical watchmaking in Perak
Corvane Works occupies a position in Ipoh that is specific and deliberate. The workshop is not a general repair centre, nor does it offer rapid turnaround as a selling point. The three services on offer were designed around the categories of mechanical watchwork most likely to produce poor outcomes when handled by a workshop optimised for speed or volume.
Chronograph movements, in particular, require an attentive and patient approach. The coupling clutch mechanism, heart pieces, and column wheel in a well-made calibre are precise components with narrow tolerances. A service that does not include proper adjustment of reset depth and pusher feel — and a multi-day functional check afterwards — cannot be described as complete, regardless of how clean the movement looks afterwards.
The estate documentation service reflects a different but related concern. Watches that come through a family estate often arrive with incomplete or uncertain histories. The owner may not know the calibre, may not have the original box or papers, and may be uncertain whether the piece is complete and original. Our report addresses these questions directly, in writing, without making claims about monetary value or recommending specific next steps.
Strap fitting, while the most straightforward of the three services, is often carried out without proper consideration for spring bar rating or lug hole condition. We assess both as standard, and note any concerns in writing before proceeding.
