Three defined services, each with a stated scope

Corvane Works carries out chronograph mechanism servicing, strap fitting, and estate watch documentation. Below is a full account of what each involves.

← Workshop Index

How work is carried out at the bench

Each service at Corvane Works begins with an assessment of what the piece actually needs, measured against the defined scope of the relevant service. This distinction matters: the scope tells you what the service covers, and the assessment tells you whether that is what is needed. If the two do not align, this is discussed before any work begins.

All work is carried out by hand on a single bench in Ipoh. No piece is passed to a third party without prior discussion. The watchmaker who receives a piece is the watchmaker who services it.

Timing on each service is given as a range based on experience with similar pieces. If parts sourcing is required, this is identified early and factored into the estimate before any commitment is made.

Intake assessment

Scope confirmed, duration estimated, pricing agreed before work begins.

Bench work

Disassembly, cleaning, inspection, replacement, and regulation at a single bench.

Post-service testing

Chronographs tested for 72 hours. Rate data recorded before return.

Written record

Findings, replacements, and performance notes returned with the piece.

Estate Watch Documentation and Condition Report

Duration: 3–5 weeks for up to six pieces

A thorough, unhurried appraisal for pieces coming through a family estate or long storage. Each watch is opened, photographed at high magnification, identified by calibre and case reference where possible, tested for function and rate, and described in a written report covering originality of dial, hands, crown, and bracelet, along with an assessment of what care would be needed to bring it back to running order. The report is factual and descriptive; it makes no valuation claim and recommends no course of action. Delivered as a bound document and a digital archive.

What the report covers

  • Calibre and case reference identification where possible
  • High-magnification photography of each piece
  • Originality assessment: dial, hands, crown, bracelet
  • Function test and rate measurement
  • Care assessment for return to running order (no action recommended)
  • Bound printed report and digital archive

Process steps

Standards applied across all services

Written confirmation before work begins

Scope, price, and estimated duration agreed in writing before any service starts.

Pieces handled only at the Ipoh bench

No piece leaves the workshop without your knowledge. Subcontracting is discussed beforehand if ever required.

Photography on estate and long-stored pieces

High-magnification images taken before handling establish a clear baseline for the condition report.

Contact details kept private

Enquiry and owner information is kept in a closed workshop log and not shared with third parties.

Correctly rated spring bars as standard

Strap fitting always uses spring bars rated for the specific case, not generic stock of uncertain specification.

72-hour post-service check for chronographs

Function and rate checked across multiple positions over 72 hours. Data recorded and returned with the piece.
